POLIS

POLIS is the leading European network for cities and regions to develop innovative policies, strategies and technologies for sustainable, efficient and safe local mobility. Founded in 1989, the network currently consists of about 90 cities, regions, research institutions and transport operators. The Regional Authority has represented the FrankfurtRheinMain metropolitan region in the POLIS network since 2021.

In addition to the exchange of expertise and knowledge transfer between the member organisations, the core tasks of POLIS also include the joint representation of interests to the European institutions. Joint partnerships will increase accessibility for public stakeholders to the relevant EU funding programmes such as Horizon Europe.

Main areas of work include:

  • Active travel (cycling and walking)
  • Clean vehicles and air quality
  • Traffic efficiency, automation, mobility management and digital applications
  • Mobility governance and integration
  • Urban freight transport
  • Urban nodes and implementation of TEN-T regulation

The work of the European office in POLIS is closely linked to the Regional Authority’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) for the region FrankfurtRheinMain.
